Tourist information

Tarifa is one of the best tourist destinations in Spain. It is an old historic city, the closest point to Africa in the Gibraltar Straits, the area where Romans, Phoenicians and Moors once reigned. But it also boasts some of the finest unspoilt beaches in Europe. An undiscovered pearl on the Spanish coast.

Wander through the small streets of the historic centre, and be amazed by the myriad of good cafes offering the best nightlife in Spain and dozens of the best restaurants that combine the strength of spanish food and the spices of Africa.

The sea is the reason Tarifa is the most popular kiteboarding destination in Europe. On a regular summer day you can see hundreds of kiteboarders out in the water. Steady winds from the Atlantic and year-around great waves also make this  the place where many Kiteboard World Champions get together and chill ‘after work’.

There are lots of things to do in the vicinity of town. Of course the best kite and windsurf instructors in the world can be arranged. But Tarifa is known for many more things. For instance Tarifa is situated in the middle of beautiful protected nature reserves, making it one  of the most significant ornithological areas in Europe and very suitable for hikes and horseback riding. For some ultimate relaxation you can visit the best Health Spas for therapeutic massages.

The Roman ruins of "Baelo Claudia" in Bolonia are nearby and can be visited 7 days a week. Tanger in Morocco is just 35 minutes from Tarifa by ferry, whcih goed every hour. And most spectacular, go and catch a boat trip to the Straits of Gibraltar for some live whale and dolphin watching.

On a clear day you can see Africa just across the water
The beaches are the most pristine on the South Spanish coast
